I was listening to a review of a DAP recently. The reviewer mentioned that if you hold down the volume up it would skip tracks, and if you held volume down it would go to the previous track. For some reason, this only clicked a few days later, but I had an idea: why don't I set this up on my phone via Macrodroid? If you don't know what Macrodroid is, it's an app that lets you automate things on your device, similar to Tasker or Automate. I made a couple of profiles and they work perfectly.
